We have a very strong winning reputation where basketball is concerned in our school.  Our Teams are being lead by one of the most popular basketball coaches Gerry Smith who strives to get the best out of the students and 2012 is lining up to be a super year for Our Lady's teams.

Mr Gerry Smyth receiving the Tom Collins Award for his amazing contribution to Basketball.  It was presented to him at a special very well attended function in the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght on Saturday September 27th.  We congratulate Gerry on this wonderful achievement. Mr Smyth arrived on the teaching staff in Our Lady’s in 1983, since that he has placed Our Lady’s on the national stage with his All Ireland successes and 1993 saw his Senior Boys Basketball team win the ‘A’ All Ireland and go on to represent Ireland in Athens, Greece at the World Champions.
The Tom Collins Award was presented to Gerry for his sterling service to the game both in coaching and at administrative level and is recognition for his unfaltering commitment to the game.

Congratulations to Mr Smyth and the Senior Girls Basketball Team  who arrived home to Castleblayney as All Ireland Champions having beaten St Angela’s Waterford 53 -52 in a game that was in contention right up to the final minutes with Our Lady’s grabbing the title in extra time. Ten bus-loads of keen supporters from Our Lady’s enjoyed a thrilling game with everyone on the edge of their seats right throughout the game but especially in the five minutes of extra time.  The girls gave a fantastic performance and it is a day that will be remembered forever by the students and Staff of Our Lady’s. We can’t forget our wonderful mascots and cheerleaders who really added to the atmosphere.
